Lobster Research Contractor in Boothbay Harbor

The Department of Marine Resources (DMR) Bureau of Marine Science Lobster Program carries out fisheries monitoring surveys and conducts life history research on the American Lobster.
Job Description: Tri-State Staffing is seeking to fill a field and technical position based out of Boothbay Harbor. This position will be responsible for field work coast-wide in the lobster program as well as data entry, data management, and maintenance of field and lab equipment. While not conducting field work, the employee is able to work remotely. Field work may require working on weekends. Travel in-state is expected and costs including time, per-diem and lodging will be covered directly or reimbursed. This is a 40 hour/week position.
Specific duties include:
•Data collection on commercial fishing boats for the lobster At-Sea Sampling Program and Ventless Trap Survey with associated data entry and data checking from those trips.
•Conducting 6-8 at-sea sampling trips per month during the peak lobster field season (May-Nov) and 2-4 trips during the winter months (Dec-April).
•Interacting with commercial fishermen and the public.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Five (5) years experience and/or education in the compilation and summarization of scientific field and laboratory data to include a minimum of one (1) year of experience in natural resource science, management, technology, laboratory, or field work.

Desired skills:
•At-sea work experience and the ability to work independently under physically challenging conditions.
•Prior experience or ability developing relationships with fishing industry members.
•Familiarity with MS Access, ArcGIS and R or other statistical programs.
•Comfort with computer hardware and relational databases is desirable.
•The ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
•Willingness to travel

Aquaculture Inspections Fieldwork Contractor in Boothbay Harbor

1 full-time seasonal position
August - October 2025
$18.00 hourly

This position is to complete aquaculture inspections throughout the coast that will contract at the Maine Department of Marine Resources. Start and end dates are flexible. This seasonal staff position will be based out of the Boothbay Harbor facility. Weekly field work will include travel to aquaculture site locations anywhere from Eliot to Lubec, Maine. This work will be conducted Monday through Friday and will sometimes be tide dependent, so field work may include early mornings or later evenings. Flexibility of work hours during the season is required. Department vehicles will be provided to complete all field work, but meeting locations for travel may vary.
Specific duties include:

-Traveling by boat to aquaculture sites
-Collecting data in the field
-Occasional overnight trips across the state
-May assist in office-related tasks

Requirements

A valid driver’s license

Must be detail oriented, organized, have a positive attitude, and desire to work on the water.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Preferred

-General understanding of aquaculture in Maine
-Experience with boat operation, navigation, and trailering

Biotoxin Technician in Lamoine, Maine

$18.00 hourly Full-time position
August - October 2025

This seasonal position will collect, transport and process shellfish collected throughout the coast that will contract at the Maine Department of Marine Resources. Start and end dates are flexible for this position. The seasonal staff positions will be based out of the Lamoine facility. Weekly field work will include travel to sampling locations from Stockton Springs to Calais. This work will be conducted Sunday through Thursday and will be tide dependent so field work scheduled during daylight hours will include early mornings to late evenings; flexibility of work hours during the season is required. If available, a vehicle will be provided to complete all field collection. If a state vehicle is unavailable, personal vehicle use will be paid a mileage stipend.

Requirements
-Knowledge and experience in field work is preferable with shellfish experience, phytoplankton identification and laboratory QA/QC preferred.
-This position must hold a valid driver’s license and must feel comfortable working independently under minimal supervision and at odd hours if necessary due to low tide sample collection.
-Must be detail oriented, organized and have a positive attitude.
